Zambia National Service

Zambia National Service was established in 1971 by an Act Of Parliament and it’s roles are the training of citizens to serve and defend the territorial integrity of the Republic. ZNS Act mandates the Zambia National Service to train citizens to serve the Republic and employ its members in tasks of national importance which include, service and defense of the Republic.

Over time, the roles have expanded to include among others:

Agricultural, Livestock and Aquaculture,
Industrial production
Land Development ( this is construction of earth works such as feeder roads, dams, bridges, airstrips etc)
Trade and Services (Establishment of commercial companies)
Builders Brigade (General infrastructure construction both for the government and private citizens when contracted)

ZNS MISSION STATEMENT

The Service exists in the Service and Defense of the territorial integrity of the Republic, to train citizens to serve the Republic and to employ it’s members in tasks of National importance as called upon by the President of the Republic of Zambia.

To develop a highly professional, responsive, agile and robust developmental Force anchored on the four pillars of national development namely; Training of Citizens, Infrastructure Development, Enhancement of National Food Security and thereby adding on the social economical development.

Youth Skill Training

ZNS runs a training program aimed at empowering vulnerable and unskilled youths with life-sustaining skills.

Infrastructure Development

The Service has in the recent past re-established Builders Brigade to be dedicated to the commercial construction and renovation of our Nation's physical infrastructure .

Land Development

This engineering arm of the Service is engaged in the land clearing and construction of feeder roads, airstrips, dams, fish ponds, bridges/crossing points etc. It also hires out equipment

Health Services

The Service has Health Centres in all the Units dotted around country providing the following services: Dental, laboratory, maternal, child health, HIV & AIDS as well as general public health services.
